Amongst our great community we have some talented and dedicated artists who are currently being funded by the Australian Government through the Regional Arts Fund (administered by Country Arts WA) to undertake a year long mid-career mentorship with a mentor of their choosing.
Dewi (David) Hyde is a photographer engaged in traditional photography practice. His work and the progress of the mentorship is being blogged at www.dewihyde.blogspot.com. Dewi is being mentored by Roger Garwood. Dewi invites community feedback and engaging dialogue concerning his practice. There are plans to introduce Dewi and his work to High School photography students in the coming months and Dewi's final exhibition will take place at the Cannery Arts Centre and hopefully to other communities throughout the Goldfields.
Cindy Poole is a glass artist, who has built up a glass studio and business over the past 15 years. She is being mentored by Shar Feil Moorman, a glass artist from Queensland. Cindy is developing considerable technical expertise and the mentorship allows her the space and opportunity to extend her artistic practice and to fully explore the medium of glass. In recent conversations Cindy explained she has been looking at techniques that explore printmaking using glass as the medium. Cindy's project is entitled Strength and Fragility and she is conducting community consultations with women in our community who have been affected by Breast Cancer. See www.cindypoole.com.au
We like to encourage everyone in the wider Esperance region to get involved in the arts, from attending community events to participating in workshops, collaborating with other artists, joining a local club or helping organise a project.
