Progress of Esperance 2011 Art Awards and Dare to Wear

Preparations are in full swing for the reintroduced wearable art event, Dare to Wear. The original event dates back some years in Esperance and was such a success that it grew to magnificent proportions but it became a bit too large to handle that the community decided not to produce it for a number of years. Discussions last year between original designers, performers, The Cannery Arts Centre and ECA resulted in a re-launch of Dare to Wear but in its original format, focusing less on the performance and more on the construction of the costumes and guests ability to view the work up close. We are pleased to say that after a bit of a false start everyone is now fully on board and we are all very excited and looking forward it!

Combined with the Esperance Art Awards it looks set to be THE glamour event of the year. Thanks to Esperance Showbizz' support we have booked Kyla Brox Duo - a fabulous British Soul Singer to provide sultry sounds and awesome entertainment for the night. Lyndel Taylor is working hard as choreographer to create an inspiring performance with all the designers and performers. Costumes will be created out of predominantly recycled materials and thanks to taking it back to grassroots, the Cannery Arts Centre main gallery will provide a fantastic up close opportunity to see the works presented. As an over 18's event there will be a licensed bar and one complementary drink per ticket. Guests are invited to dress up in cocktail wear, tux's, feathers, vintage jewels and/or your own version of Dare to Wear. Tickets cost $35 and are now on sale from the ECA Gallery or the Cannery Arts Centre AND ARE SELLING OUT QUICKLY, so get in quick or be sadly disappointed as the event can only cater for 150 people.

The Art Award nominations have also opened. We are seeking nominations for the following awards, which will be presented on the night:

Shining Star Award - for outstanding voluntary contribution to the Arts in our Community

Shooting Star Award - for outstanding artistic achievement

Rising Star Award - for outstanding youth or emerging artist achievement

Forward all nominations, stating all contact information and an explanation of why the person you are nominating should win an award to admin@esperancecommunityarts.org.au by 30th April.

Thanks must also go to Phil Shelton, Cindy Poole and Caitlyn Edwards who have agreed to help out with the creation of the trophies. Commemorative posters will be available to be purchased on the night for $25.
